I am also 38 weeks pregnant.. and here are a couple things that aren’t on your list.
1. bibs
2. changing table (don’t need it, but nice to have)
3. baby powder!
4. baby bath
5. bottles or binkies (even if you are breastfeeding you should have a few)

hospital checklist-
1. comfy robe and slippers
2. hair ties
3. camera
4. baby’s first cloths
5. nursing bra
6. your own pads (hospital pads are said to be uncomfortable)
7. Multiple panties
8. cloths for you when you leave
9. shirt for whoever is staying with you at the hospital

For the hospital
clothes for you to wear home
clothes for baby to wear home
toothpaste/tooth brush
shampoo and such if you don’t like the hospital brand
camera
extra pillow if you want it

don’t bring diapers, the hospital will supply them all.
When I had my daughter we took all the diapers and such we could back from the hospital… it helped a lot

Also you shouldn’t use wipes on a new baby. They suggest you buy Viva Papertowels here, plain white ones without print. The acids in the wipes will be too much for a newborns skin for the first few weeks.

For the hospital you will need your favorite night gown, if breastfeeding one with buttons, don’t forget slippers, those floors are cold. The hospital provides everything for the baby except the outfit for the trip home. You need pads, not tampons. all your accessories like toothbrush and toothpaste, brush ETC. Excellent luck to you!!

Sounds like you have everything. Unless your breastfeeding which is a whole other ball game. Whatever you do, don’t over pack for the hospital…I did and I had this ginormous bag of stuff that I barely opened. Bring toiletries, comfy clothes to go home in for you and baby, a pillow, warm socks and maybe a sportsbra if your hospital will let you keep it on (I’m large chested and wore a nursing bra bc I had a problem with everyone seeing them swing all over the place).

Apart from what you say you have included I’d suggest….

Essentials: Baby bath, towels, facewashers, nappy rash cream, scratch mittens,

Not so essential: Playmat, toys, nappy bin, change table, bottles/formula (in case you have difficulty breast feeding?) bouncer/rocker, swaddling wraps/muslin wraps, newborn dummy??

You really can go to the extreme can’t you. As long as you have the essentials you baby will be fine :)

Hospital bag….

- Preferably front opening nightie for labouring/giving birth in
- Warm socks
- Loose fitting clothes to wear post birth and home from hospital
- Dressing gown, slippers and jandals (for the shower).
- Toiletries, hairbrush, toothbrush.
- Lip balm
- Maternity pads (plenty of high absorbency).
- Breast pads
- Comfortable cotton underwear. If you have an elective caesarean, go for higher waisted styles.
- Feeding bras.
- Something to read
- A journal or baby record book and pen
- Maternity notes
- Camera/video camera, spare batteries and/or AC plug
- Phone numbers of who to call
- Any music, aromatherapy etc for labour if desired
- A water bottle and a few healthy snacks for labour
……………………….And for baby?
- 3-4 changes of clothes
- Nappies & wipes
- Beanie, booties and mittens
- An outfit for going home in – remember a warm cardigan and hat
- Snuggly blanket (merino or cotton)
-Cotton wrap or swaddle
-Carseat

Hope this helps. Im also 38 weeks pregnant and these are all the items I have packed. :)

Excellent Luck!

be sure to take comfort items for yourself to the hospital ie your own slippers or comfy socks your usual pillow a blanket for baby and the outfit you want to go home in. take maternity pants because more than likely you will still not be able to wear your regular jeans, not to mention they will probably not be very comfortable.
be sure you have your camera and lots of film or a huge memory card for the digital. Excellent luck and congrats!

you should get a medical kit, they are sold at walmart for between 8-16 dollars…the one that is 8 dollars is better but it doesnt have a case…the one that is 16 dollars has a case but not as much in it. you should get an ear thermometer, preferably a 1 second one. you need a head hugger for the car seat so the babies head doesnt flop around. get a pack of soothers just in case, some babies can’t sleep with out the feeling of sucking. if you are having a winter baby you should get a car seat cover that is used instead of a snow suit…will save on time and hassle. and a grow with me tooth brush set…goes from brushing gums to teeth (i reckon it has 3 tooth brushes in total)

as for you at the hospital: a nightgown, a house coat, slippers, pads (the super thick ones) nursing pads so you dont leak all over the place. socks, slippers, lip chap, snacks for hubby, a magazine or a book. huge comfy undies, an outfit to go home in that fit you between 5-6 months pregnant. or just a huge baggy pair of track pants. a travel kit of toiletries, tooth brush and paste, shampoo, conditioner. hair brush and elastics. i cant reckon of anything else at the moment…

i am 34 weeks working on the same thing you are!…excellent luck and congrats!

You need a baby bath along with baby washcloths and hooded baby towels. You may need spit up cloths and if your baby does spit up a lot, possibly some small bibs. If you can get one, a wipee warmer is wonderful for when they are still so new, those wipees are very cold otherwise. They can’t regulate their own temperature at first so beanies are vital to cover their small heads. Maybe some mittens so they don’t scratch their faces. Most of the items I’ve listed are not necessities but are nice to have so if you can’t afford them all right now don’t worry about it. Just give your baby lots of like and he/she will be fine.
