Is it safe to put baby sunscreen on a baby under 6 mos?

I have read that it’s not safe to place sunscreen on a new baby because it will absorb into their skin. So then how would you protect your baby from the rays? Just and umbrella and hat?

Yes, I was told it was safe for babies once they reach 5 months
You protect them by not keeping them out in the sun! And yes hat and shade will help. I wouldn’t place sunblock on babies under 6 months.
Baby sunblock is designed for babies. if you don’t use it place him an infant sunglasses, a hat, and some light weight clothing, and keep him in the shade as much as possible.
At that age, sunscreen or not, I’d keep the baby out of the sun altogether.
When my daughter was a baby I remember this horrible incident where a mother left her baby sleeping in the sun and place a flannel shirt over it to keep it covered, but the baby was still in the sun in its small sleeping box thing.
When she went to check the baby an hour later or so, the baby was baked dead and the flannel shirt was fused into its skin.
Sunscreen, loose cotton clothing and umbrella seems like a excellent thought.
I have to say, that’s one rule I ignored. I place sunscreen on my son when he was as young as 2.5 months. I have had more than 4 “pre-cancerous” moles removed from my body, and I am not about to expose him to anything since it runs in our family. I didn’t place it on his face or his hands (in case he touched his face) and I tested it out on a small area of skin to make sure he had no reaction first. I would rather expose him to the chemicals in the sunscreen which may or may not be perilous than expose him to the sun which we know IS perilous.
Every time we go out we are both sunscreened, sunglessed, and hatted to the max.
my aunt tried it and it really did not work so she has this bouncer that has like a shade around it that you unzip…it works wonders..my sunt lives on a lake and her 3 yr ancient son is always busy wanting to do something outside so its impossible for her to be indoor all the time..
sun screen really is not a excellent thought…just keep your baby covered some how..thats the best way to protect them
