I washed everything.
I am glad I did because my son has eczema. He is now 9 months and I still need to have everything washed in baby detergent. We use Target branded Dreft. We have tried sensitive skin detergents. EVERY kind has made my son breakout except Dreft or offbrand dreft. Thats just my experience. My son has VERY sensitive skin.

I did with my first and then he grew out of a lot of stuff and I wasn’t able to return it because I had taken the tags off and washed it already. I’m now 39 weeks pregnant and haven’t washed anything for this one. I’m sure I will in the next week but I am not sure yet.

I reckon you should wash them because the stores have germs [ just like everything ] and you don’t want your baby getting sick. It’s better to be careful so you won’t have any regrets. Anyways,
CONGRATS ON YOU NEW BABY!!!!!!!!! =D =D =D YAY!!

I washed everything that would be touching the babies skin, with special detergent, because I was told to by the hospital. It has something to do with some chemical that manufactured clothes have on them. I didn’t really know it all at the time and still don’t, I just did it.

i washed all of the hand me downs, and some of the new clothes. i skipped the new hats, socks and mittens.

Don’t usually wash before first wearing. In fact, I’m likely to be pulling the tags off just as I am dressing my baby in that outfit.

(I do wash diapers because if you don’t, they have this coating so they are not absorbent)

I washed EVERYTHING!!! After working in retail, I see how yucky some items can get! Customers touch everything with their dirty, germy hands. And you never know if a mouse (or some other yucky thing) got onto the item at the store or the factory or during shipping…

Congrats on the new baby!

Only wash what you will be useing the first few days from the hospital, most people (if you have a baby shower before baby arrives) , have way too many small onsies around that they never get worn and baby grows out of them before he/she can even wear them.

I would say don’t wash everything because all the baby clothes that won’t be needed can be returned, but not if its been washed.

One of the main reasons you wash your newborn baby’s clothes when they are new is not about germs, but more about the chemicals used to wash the fabrics before making into clothes and it could be too harsh for your newborns skin. After a few months though, you can start to use clothes that haven’t been washed as your baby’s skin is not as sensitive. I washed all newborn stuff for our daughter though just to get it smelling fresh more than anything. I did wash everything from hats to mittens, or anything that would touch her newborn sensitive skin. It really depends on how sensitive your baby’s skin is. Not all babies skin is sensitive. It’s more trial and error. Excellent luck to you and I hope your delivery is a wonderful experience!! =)

I washed everything. But I shouldn’t have done it before he was born… He was over 9 pounds and I finished up having to just pack away a lot of clothes before he even wore them. I couldn’t return them because I’d washed them all. They do need to be washed before they’re worn, but I’d only was some and then wait and see how huge the baby is.

I washed everything, and still wash everything, before she wears it. You don’t know where those clothes have been, whose been touching them, or what’s been touching them.

CONGRATS!

I did wash everything before my son wore it, just like I wash all new clothing I buy for myself (they are often laced with chemicals; see my references). But I did not wash it all before he was born.

In order to avoid washing stuff I may have had to return, Here is what I did:
1. Organized his clothing by size (month);

2. Before he was born I washed a FEW newborn outfits, most of his 0-3 month ancient clothing, his blankets, sheets, burp cloths. (The reason I washed a only a few of his newborn outfits is because clothing labeled “newborn” only goes up to 8 or 10 pounds and if a baby is born huge, they will only fit in it a few days or a week. Hence, if you have too much newborn clothing it will never get worn. My son was born 8 lbs 14 ounces and a lot of the newborn clothing had to be returned or re-gifted);l

3. I washed the other clothing as he grew into it. This was a excellent thing to do because he was in the 12 month size by age 7 months, so even the clothing that fit him was in incorrect for the season. If I would have washed those pieces, I would not have been able to return them.

Excellent luck and God bless.

I washed everything before the baby wore it until about 4 months of age, Because we had no problems with skin irritation, etc, I quit washing it before he wore it the first time.
